We Have BIG DREAMS!

We spent a lot of time discussing the importance of Martin Luther King Jr. and what he represents to people everywhere. We read several mentor texts teaching us about Dr. King's life as a boy and how he grew to be a leader and help to bring about change in our nation. We watched and listened to a clip of Dr. King giving his, "I Have a Dream" speech to crowds of hopeful, inspired people. We talked about how each of us can also make a difference and inspire others. Students wrote about their dream to make the world a better place for all.

In a step by step, "How To" drawing lesson, students drew amazing portraits of Martin Luther King Jr.. After outlining their sketches with crayon, students carefully painted them with water colors. The resemblance to MLK Jr. is remarkable and so impressive!
Our new science unit is about FORCES and MOTION.
In our first experiment, we used several items to move a crumbled paper in an assortment of ways. We talked about how pushing and pulling with various strengths and speeds can have different effects depending on the object you are trying to move.
In our second experiment, students had to figure out how to make a car move on a whiteboard without touching it. Students made lots of discoveries and shared them with team members. They concluded that blowing, tilting the board, pushing with an object and shaking the board can all move the car different distances.
After the experiment, scientists recorded and then shared their findings.
