Our Second Week In Kindergarten!

We read, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault and created our own Chicka Chicka Boom Boom letter trees! We used sticker letters to spell out our name and stamps to add the other letters to our tree!
Science: Students worked with partners to build a coconut tree with only two wooden pieces and five popsicle sticks. Their mission was to see how many letters they could balance on their tree before it went Chicka Chicka BOOM BOOM! (Notice the "before" intense, deep thinking faces compared to the "after" proud faces.)
We met/exceeded our ultimate READ TO SELF goal: We built our reading stamina for 18 minutes!
Enjoying CHOICE TIME with our friends!
Students met Mabel, our class pet. She loves words, especially ones that start with the letter M!!!(Her favorite toy which she carries in her backpack is a marble!)
Bus safety and evacuation drills with the Cape Elizabeth police and bus department! We all got to open the emergency exit latch at the back of the bus and jump out!
We created name alphabet books and used published ones to find the letters that match our names. We drew pictures that correspond to each letter/sound in our name!
#Making Letters Meaningful #Research skills

We learned about our  C.A.F.E. reading menu and practiced our first 3 strategies during Daily 5:
1. Use picture clues 2. Look at the beginning letter and get your mouth ready to start the word.
3. Fingerpoint to each word.
We are learning a lot about science and what scientists do! We learned that we are scientists when we make observations, ask questions and formulate ideas about the world around us.

We LOVE our play-dough! Thank you to the families that made it for us!
