Fun With Friends At CHOICE TIME!

Daily Five in Action!

WORD WORK!

LISTEN (and respond) TO READING!

WORK ON WRITING!

READ TO SELF!
READ TO SOMEONE: Sitting E.E.K. and taking turns "reading" to a partner.

We learned all about WRITING WORKSHOP today! We got to use and decorate the cover of our writing folders where we keep all of our work and tools.

We read, The Button Box, a story about a little boy who likes to play with all of the different buttons in his grandma’s button box. He sorts the buttons by the # of holes, color, material and design.  Children worked with partners to sort all of the buttons in their pile by different attributes. They loved looking through them and feeling the large variety of buttons that I have collected over the years.

Understanding syllables and parts of words is an important stepping stone in literacy acquisition! We drew a picture of our favorite food, clapped out the syllables and wrote the amount on the page!
(Look for our traveling class book that is circulating around to families!)

Hopes And Dreams For Kindergarten!
We have lots of ideas about what we hope to learn in kindergarten!

A Terrific Tuesday!

We reviewed Daily 5, Read to Self  and continued building reading stamina! I introduced and we practiced, Read to Someone and Listen to Reading! We made an I (independent) Chart listing what we expect to see and hear during these literacy choices.

We practiced sitting EEKK (Elbow to Elbow, Knee to Knee) and we took turns reading books together. Many of us read the pictures and retold the story.

Take a look at the magic of GUIDANCE and guidance counselor extraordinaire, Bri Gallagher!
Mrs. G is teaching us all about her job as a school counselor.
Her EYES are always on the lookout for friends that need help solving a problem. Her EARS are always listening in case a friend wants to talk about feelings or needs support.
We played a game of "Speedy Dog" where we had to work as a team to carefully, but quickly see how fast we could help Speedy Dog travel around to everyone. We beat our goal - YAY TEAM!
